What is Seratone?

Seratone® is a range of pre-finished decorative wall and ceiling lining panels which can used in wet and dry areas for both commercial and residential interiors.

How long has Seratone® been in the market?

The Seratone® brand has been in the New Zealand market for over 30 years. During this time, we have introduced new products under the Seratone® brand as technology and trends have changed.

What’s the difference between Seratone® AQUA and Seratone® AQUA PLUS™?

Seratone® AQUA – is a range of water resistant surfaces that are safe in all areas directly exposed to steam or moisture. The innovative 4.5mm compact sheet is strong and durable which has a black or dark brown core.

Seratone® AQUA PLUS™ – is a modern range of interior, pre-finished wet wall and ceiling panels manufactured on a high density, water resistant mineral composite board. Panels have a smooth glass like finish providing a tough, durable, non-porous, easy to clean surface that resists marks, stains, steam and moisture.

Can you use Seratone® in a shower?

Yes, the entire Seratone® range is tested and approved for use in both shower zones and wet area rooms.

Can Seratone® be installed in saunas or steam rooms?

No. Seratone® is NOT suitable for areas with extremely high humidity and prolonged elevated moisture levels.

Is Seratone® be installed directly onto masonry or concrete?

No. In this instance, dry timber or steel battens must be used. Refer to Technical Installation Manual.

Can Seratone® be easily installed by a DIYer?

An experienced competent DIYer could install Seratone® AQUA PLUS™ with basic carpentry tools.

Seratone® AQUA requires cutting and fabrication with specific power tools. A person with little or no DIY experience should not attempt installation.

It is strongly recommended that all installers read and understand the installation details before commencing work. This also applies to experienced installers as technical installation details can be updated periodically.

Is Seratone® waterproof?

Seratone® AQUA is made using layers of kraft paper impregnated with resin which is formed under high pressure and heat, making it impervious to water throughout the panel thickness.

Seratone® AQUA PLUS™ is made by applying water resistant paint to the raw mineral composite panel using a high-tech 175 micron multi-layered paint system. This system fully cures the paint using UV light to create a finished panel which is impervious to water.

Will Seratone® rot?

No, Seratone® AQUA will not rot, but can expand and swell in high humidity and elevated moisture environments.

Seratone® AQUA PLUS™ will not rot, swell, expand or contract.

How do you install Seratone® and make sure the 15 year old warranty applies?

Seratone® is installed using a combination of adhesive and double-sided foam type using jointers and or silicon sealant between panels. Always follow the detailed instructions outlined in the Technical Installation Manual. Any variation from these instructions may create unexpected performance problems and will void the limited warranty. Download the most up to date manual here.

What tools and materials do I need to install Seratone®?

How is Seratone® made?

How do you clean Seratone?

Seratone is easily cleaned with a range of readily available non-abrasive household cleaning products.

Please refer to the Care and Maintenance Guide, Seratone Brochure or Seratone Technical Installation Manual. Do not use scouring pads, abrasive cloths or cream cleaners.

Can Seratone® AQUA & Seratone® AQUA PLUS™ be used together?

Yes. All sheets are 4.5mm thick. You can also use the same jointers as well.

What are the jointers made out of – and what are the colours?

Jointers are made from aluminium and colour matched to complement a given décor. There is also an anodized jointer option.

Are Seratone® AQUA tile patterns easy to align?

Some sheets may require trimming to align pattern. When installing the Herringbone Tile, careful planning and cutting is required. Refer to Technical Installation Manual for guidance.

If a Seratone® AQUA panel is slightly bowed, how can I stop it “popping” when curing?

Use some timber props for bracing while recommended adhesive cures.
