At Laminex New Zealand the health and safety of our team, customers and our community are our highest priority. As a founding member of New Zealand Engineered Stone Advisory Group we assess safety practices of every new Laminex fabricator.
It is well known that silica is a component of engineered stone benchtop products and at Laminex we are resolute that safe handling practices and conditions are paramount when fabricating all stone products. We recommend all our fabricators seek their RCS Accreditation for a list of fabricators with Engineered Stone Fabricator RCS Accreditations click here.
Laminex Low Silica Benchtop Options
Caesarstone Low Silica
Over the next 12 months we plan to migrate our Caesarstone range to low silica, phasing in from October 2023. The new range will have silica content of less than 40% which is comparable to natural stone products such as granite, whilst still giving the beauty, strength and quality that makes Caesarstone one of the world’s most popular benchtop surfaces. Laminam Porcelain Benchtops
Large-format, full bodied Italian porcelain tiles are made from clay and blended pigments with a silica content between 5% and 20%.
Natural and luxurious, Laminam blends good looks, materiality, and functionality for a hard wearing heat resistant, non-porous benchtop.
Laminam takes more time to fabricate than Caesarstone and HIMACS due to the hardness of the slab, but that hardness makes it highly water, stain and heat resistant.
HIMACS Acrylic Solid Surface
Silica free, HIMACS is made from acrylic, minerals and natural pigments that combine to make a smooth, non-porous, and visually seamless surface.
HIMACS is durable, versatile, and will add a lasting beauty to your home.
Fabrication ranges from simple to sophisticated depending on the brief - a standard kitchen benchtop is straightforward to fabricate, but HIMACS can also be thermoformed to create incredible organic designs and large areas without visible joins or edges.
Laminex Formica Laminate
Laminate benchtops are made from resin embedded pressed paper compressed under high pressure then adhered to a substrate such as MDF board and is completely silica free.
Laminate is hardwearing, easy to fabricate, affordable, and looks great.
For a modern look we recommend consulting with your fabricator about the edging used and the way that the sink is mounted, for a smoother, more seamless look.
